What to pack in your child’s bag for a day in the mountains?

Packing your child’s bag before a day at the nursery, the club, or out in the snow is a small step that makes a big difference. Here’s a complete checklist to make sure you don’t forget anything.

1. Warm and comfortable clothing

Mountain weather can change quickly, so be sure to pack:

  • A spare pair of pants (ideally lined or waterproof)

  • A long-sleeve t-shirt or warm thermal top

  • A pair of thick spare socks

  • A ski suit or waterproof jacket and pants set

  • A hat, scarf or neck warmer, and lined gloves

  • Waterproof snow boots

Tip: choose layers that are easy to put on and take off to make things easier for the staff.

2. Early childhood essentials

If your child is under 3 years old, don’t forget:

  • Pacifier, comfort toy, or any soothing item

  • Diapers (at least 3 or 4), wipes, and a bag for dirty clothes

  • Diaper cream if needed

  • A full change of clothes, just in case

3. Hygiene, comfort, and sun protection

Even in winter, sun protection is essential in the mountains:

  • SPF 50 sunscreen specially for children

  • Sunglasses or a suitable mask

  • Moisturizing lip balm

And of course, a water bottle, a small healthy snack (fruit purée, dry biscuit), and a cloth or paper tissue.

4. Useful documents

  • A sheet with the child’s full name, parents’ contact details, and any allergies

  • A copy of the health insurance or social security card, if required

  • Remember to label every piece of clothing and accessory with the child’s name

In summary

Packing a well-prepared bag means giving your child comfort, safety, and independence. Whether it’s for the Crèche du Yéti, the Yéti Camp, or a simple family outing, a thoughtfully packed bag (without overloading it) prevents many hassles. It’s better to plan ahead so everyone enjoys a great day in the mountains, calm and well-equipped.
